Formal fiddleback chasubles and modest Franciscan sandals come together in the Extraordinary Form of the Mass (Traditional Latin Mass) at Our Lady of Guadalupe Friary of the Franciscans of the Immaculate. The video is put to beautiful music from the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate, our sister order. The music was recorded in Italy and is a fine example of the high quality of their music which, combined with the friars in Italy, are playing a major part in spearheading the reform of liturgical music in Italy.

That was simply stunning. Than you so much for sharing.
@ivbj There are …
@ivbj There are four possibilities. 1) By the time the Catholic Encyclopedia was written in 1909 or so the Capuchins had forgotten the tradition of the Order, 2) The Capuchins had ignored the tradition of the Order from the time of their inception in 1528, or 3) The Catholic encyclopedia got it wrong or 4) I am wrong.
I’ll go and check the sources when next it is possible.
The beauty of the music is undeniable, the solemnity of the liturgy also; it is the claim to tradition that is debatable.
@Froggy64, I think …
@Froggy64, I think I disagree. Catholic encyclopedia: “the Friars Minor and the Capuchins wear the amice, instead of the biretta, over the head, and are accustomed to say Mass with their feet uncovered, save only by sandals.”

Froggy, perhaps …
Froggy, perhaps this obscure piece of tradition was forgotten after 40 some years. Definitely mention it, but lets just be thankful for this beautiful Mass!
I’m interested that …
I’m interested that the priest wears sandals when celebrating the extraordinary form of the Mass. This is definitely not a Franciscan tradition. Traditionally, the one time when it was obligatory for friars to wear shoes was while celebrating Mass (presumably because in the western tradition being barefoot at Mass was considered disrespectful). Indeed traditionally special slipper shoes would be kept in the sacristy for this purpose. Why not follow true tradition?

The difference …
The difference between friars and monks lies in that the work of the firsts takes place in communites “outside” , while the monks carry a mostly cloistered life.

Nice music! That’s …
Nice music! That’s about all you can say for this obscurantist estheticism. This was only one stage in the evolution of the Western Rite — and by no means a very historically aware one.
